Negreanu Falls Just Short Again- isnortbooze Report WSOP $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship

The $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship is a favorite of many top name professionals, giving them the opportunity to test their versatility at an assortment of games including Hold 'Em, Omaha and Stud.

Another exciting event has concluded in the 2017 World Series of Poker. The $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship is a favorite of many top name professionals, giving them the opportunity to test their versatility at an assortment of games including Hold 'Em, Omaha and Stud. This year's winner, among the 150 entrants, was David Bach, who took home the $383,208 prize along with his second gold bracelet of the year and third overall. But there were a couple other major story-lines lurking in the background.

Jason Mercier
One of them was WSOP legend Jason Mercier. Mercier has been dominating in poker for many years, but last year made headlines when he bet Vanessa Selbst $10,000 he would win 3 bracelets, getting 180:1 odds. He fell just short of that goal, scoring 2 1st place finishes and coming up just short for a 2nd place finish in the $10,000 Razz Championship. One of the tournaments he got a bracelet for was this very event and he was looking to join the likes of Layne Flack and Tuan Le in the back-to-back club. He seemed like he had a great shot for a while, but fell just short on the final day, busting out on a hand of Razz against Andrew Brown. He ended up receiving 5th place prize money, taking home $83,415 for his efforts.

Daniel Negreanu
The other big story was Daniel Negreanu and his quest for his 7th bracelet. While he is currently the all time money leader, with over $33 million in live tournament cashes, he has not been able to keep up with some of his colleagues such as Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan in the gold department. In an effort to inspire himself, he made a bracelet bet of his own, wagering an unknown amount against Ben Lamb that he would take 3 first place finishes in this year's WSOP. However, he was apparently so confident in his desire that he took even money on the bet, unlike Mercier's more reasonable 180 to 1. So far he has come close, with a 2nd place run in the $10,000 Omaha Hi/Lo Championship and 3rd place in the $10,000 Tag Team Championship. But he had been unable to close it out and with the series nearly halfway over, was running thin on time to win the bet. He hoped this $10,000 H.O.R.S.E event would be the game changer when he made the final day and soon after the final table. But once again, it was all a dream and he was forced to read Word Up Magazine on the rail after finishing in 6th place, scoring $61,667 but falling short of that coveted first bracelet of the series. Negreanu was eliminated by Eric Rodawig in a hand of PLO8 after calling an all in on the turn with 2 pair and a flush draw and losing to Rodawig's full house. Neither hand qualified for a low. Negreanu is currently sitting at 4th place in the player of the year leaderboard with 379.25 points.

Eric Rodawig
Rounding out the top 4 in this H.O.R.S.E were Eric Rodawig, $236,841, Don Zewin, $163,557, and Andrew Brown who received 4th place money of $115,485. Brown, who has 1 career bracelet, was actually leading the field when it narrowed to the final 4 with about half the chips in play. He gave up a large portion to Rodawig, though, and later fell victim to Bach in a large PLO8 pot and was eliminated. Shortly after, Zewin busted in 3rd place (He also got 3rd in this event in 2015) in a hand where Rodawig rivered a straight. That gave Rodawig a slight lead going into heads up play against Bach. But Bach took control early on and didn't look back. He finished the job on a PLO8 hand getting it all in on the flop with top pair vs Rodawig's flush draw. Rodawig couldn't get there and Bach took down the gold.

Brian Rast
Other big name pros who cashed this event include Brian Rast, who won $23,508 for 11th place and Anthony Zinno, who fell just short of the 8-person final table, and won $28,808 for his 9th place effort. Currently leading the 2017 WSOP player of the year leaderboard is Pablo Mariz, largely in part due to a 1st place finish in the $1,500 millionaire maker which scored him over $1.2 million.

Belth: Hopefully Negreanu wins, with

Hopefully Negreanu wins, with his vlogs, slight recognition in hearthstone in the past year together with Doug Polk winning the one drop it could be a pretty good boost for poker. Casuals or people new to poker seeing the youtubers and personalities all doing well "easily" can be very drawing. I feel like other bloggers are just not as known to casuals so they don't really matter when it comes to helping the scene - only drawing people from the scene into their videos.

Underworld: Hard to predict this one...
Tue, 06/20/2017 - 17:15

I watched video about what Negreanu feels about new POY formula, he is not in first 10 at the moment, and but there is still a lot of time that to change.
I take a look on some players, watched couple videos and games, my pick is Justin Bonomo, maybe he can do something more this year, and I like how he play. We will see who will win, but this year formula can bring some new names on the top I think.
