Basketball fans and enthusiasts around the world, get ready for the 2023-2024 NBA Finals. It doesn’t seem quite long ago that the world was watching the finals from a bubble, where teams had to find the strength and power as one, and a unit to come together in some of the toughest times we’ve faced as a community and as a whole. As we enter the finals, these two teams have shown us what it takes to succeed beyond struggle and adversity, as both time and time again have met it face on. The Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics will face head-to-head in what should be one of the most anticipated finals in recent history, all rich in history and historic atmosphere. Both teams have found a way to overcome their traumas of the recent past, and we’ll finally see one of these teams become NBA Champions for the first time in many years. Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving, will look to face off against Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown, a clash between two of the best duo’s in the NBA. It’s been a long road to get here, so grab a drink, and let’s all gather around as we reminisce about how we arrived at the 2023-2024 NBA Finals.
It was just last year when the Dallas Mavericks acquired NBA all-star Kyrie Irving, and many thought it was the move that would push Dallas into a post-season run. Losing back-to-back games in their final two of the season, destiny had other plans as they failed to see the playoffs and their bags were packed early. Forward to this year, and a wonderful off season, along with an amazing trade deadline, the Mavericks have accomplished what many would hope for in a short period of time. Not only will Luka Dončić be competing for his first of what should be many NBA Championships, Kyrie Irving will be facing off against one of his former teams, where things didn’t fair too well. It should be a very hectic return for the all-star guard, but also in general, as the TD Garden is one of the hardest places to endure in sports history.
As for their competition, The Boston Celtics, led by Jason Tatum, have found their way back to the NBA finals, after a very disappointing few post-seasons. Being upset by the Miami Heat in the conference finals last year, along to losing to the Warriors in the finals Prior, the Boston Celtics have shown that they can manage adversity at the highest level, and that these growing pains could be what moulds them into the young dynasty they’ve hoped to become. As well as Luka, Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown are both chasing their first NBA ring, and finally we’ll see one of the young stars accomplish such a feat. While acquiring Kristaps Porziņģis in the off season, the Celtics finally thought they’d found their missing piece, all before the loss of their all-star due to injury. Due to the many mishaps during the end of the season, and post-season slumps, the Celtics have been able to do what they’ve been asked of all along, return to the NBA Finals, but now it’s time to finish the job.
At the end of the day, each team is worthy of bringing home the trophy. Luka will have to face off against his old teammate Porziņģis, which Dallas once thought would be the future best NBA duo. To further add, Luka will be trying to accomplish what no other player has been able to do for Dallas, since Dirk Nowitzki. One of these young stars will finally claim their ring, and who will it be? The future of the NBA could very well be in Tatum, or Luka’s hands, and this will be the game that will decide that fate. Tatum has been known to fall apart in the big moments, where Luka can finally shine with a powerful core surround him. In the end, we’re all winners, as the NBAs future is in good hands.
